The fragmented narrative threw me off a bit, but this was a surprisingly good read. Plodding in a positive way, very reflective. If you don’t care about the characters or the flaws inherent in toxic masculinity, I doubt you’ll connect with the story at all. The ending definitely subverted my expectations. Descriptions of the landscape and area were beautifully done. Gothic Americana.
