I purposely waited to read this book until now, because I knew I would need to immerse myself in good vibes during this very stressful time. Despite the sadness in this book, it did not disappoint. The Vanderbeeker books are full of good people who love each other and take care of each other, and that's such a beautiful thing. I am so grateful that Karina Yan Glaser has created this world full of kindness and generosity and love. The Vanderbeekers are such a wonderful gift to middle grades readers.

⁣“When the bell rang, the two new friends headed back to their classrooms. Halfway across the blacktop, Maria looped her arm through Hyacinth’s, and for the first time in weeks, Hyacinth felt hope bloom in her chest.”⁣

Is Hyacinth my favorite Vanderbeeker? Maybe. I loved her story arc in this one where she is too timid to make friends until her knitting elicits interest from the other kids at school. But honestly, I love all the Vanderbeekers and their gaggle of found family, friends, and animals. This fourth book dealt with some big emotions and I felt for all of them so much.
