Bedmates was my first book by Nichole Chase, but it definitely won't be my last! This book was the first in her new American Royalty series, and I enjoyed it from start to finish. This was such a sweet and sexy story and I had a great time reading Maddie and Jake's story!

When Maddie McGuire's latest mistake lands her in handcuffs, she knows that things are about to go from bad to worse quickly due to the fact that she is the President's daughter. When she agrees to pay for the damages and do community service, she never expects that she will find herself working alongside Jake Simmon. Not only is Jake annoying, but he ratted her out in the past. But Jake is no longer the same guy she remembers, and since returning from Afghanistan with a life changing injury he struggles with the horrors of everything that he has been through. Maddie and Jake might fight like cats and dogs, but they soon realize that there is a fine line between love and hate. Can Maddie help Jake with his demons though, or will he push her away when he needs her the most?

I really loved these characters. They had so much depth and I loved the fact that they were different yet had so much in common. They understood each other in a way that no one else could because of their circumstances, and that had them relating to one another even before things really started to change between them. They were both sweet and sexy, and the emotional connection they were forming was one I couldn't get enough of. Both Maddie and Jake wanted to make the world a better place, and their determination to do so was great to see. They weren't doing it just because of the position they were in because of their parents, but because they genuinely believed in the causes that they were passionate about.

Overall, this was a great story and I loved it from the very beginning. There were a few times that Jake annoyed me with his pushing Maddie away, but I understood it even if I didn't like it. The only reason this one wasn't a five star book for me was because of something that is an issue for me personally. I don't know that it will bother other readers like it did for me, but Jake did hook up with a few girls in the beginning of this story, one he definitely should have known better about, and that was something I don't care for. Maddie and Jake weren't together, so he didn't cheat, but he did recognize his feelings for Maddie and it was clear that Maddie was upset about him with the one girl, so that just rubbed me the wrong way. We find out later that he had been with a few other girls as well and to me once feelings and a connection start to form, I don't want the hero or heroine to be with anyone else. Again though, that could just be something that bothers me personally and I still really enjoyed the book. It just kept me from absolutely loving this one when I think had that been different that this would have been easily five stars. I definitely can't wait to read more from Nichole Chase though, and I already can't wait for the next book in this series.

This book takes a good look at how PTSD can change someone’s life. It is different for everyone but Jake shows how much it can impact a life after trauma. Being the son of the VP of the US, who is currently running for president, multiplies his stress exponentially.
Maddie keeps getting herself into trouble. Which would not be such an issue, except she is the daughter of POTUS.
Maddie and Jake have rubbed each other the wrong way since they were kids. Now they are supposed to do a tour of military hospitals.
It’s a solid story with some serious real life issues. I wanted to throat punch Jakes mom. She was a real piece of work. I hated that Jake was so stubborn but it was realistic.
Maddie was a little all over the place but I liked the growth she showed throughout the book.

It wasn't that this book was poorly written or that I couldn't believe it, but more that I didn't feel any sort of spark between the main characters. I figure with their hatred that they harbor for one another that there would be this angst-y fire that is palpable, but I didn't feel any of it. It felt like two people who didn't like each other, mostly. None of the sexual tension jumped off of the pages or lured me into continuing to read. Which is sad because I was greatly looking forward to the story and another book by Ms. Chase. The premise and the execution was good and had everything to make this story something aside from the missing character connection. I do hope to be able to try this book again in the future and have a better outcome. I did start it and leave it when I wasn't feeling it in order to come back and try again, and it still wasn't hitting it for me. I will continue to read Ms. Chase's books and this won't deter me in any way. I know readers will enjoy this forbidden romance; it just wasn't a good fit for me.

3.5 Bedmates Stars

I wanted more from the story I feel like if Maddie had been more herself like she was in the middle of the book I would have liked this book a lot more.

I liked Jake don’t get me wrong he was pretty awesome but he was a little whinny, he knew how is mother was yet he didn’t do anything until the end of the book. He HAD to have known his mother was going to get to Maddie once they started something.. Grrrrr MEN.

I loved the shelter part of the book I wished we had more of that, it felt like it was more of an afterthought.

And I loved getting Alex and Samantha <3 if you read this authors other series you would know who they are.. <3 Makes me want to reread their books again.

I like the narration just fine.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

I really liked this. Their romance was cute. I liked that there was the President/VP children romance. It was different, and I have never heard of another book with the same type of romance. I liked how the characters weren't perfect.

Original review on Julalicious Book Paradise

This was the first book I ever read of Nichole Chase. I had bought one of her books at this year's Apollycon, but never got around to read it. I didn't know whether or not I would like her writing style or the story, but it called to me, so I was happy I got to read it. And even more happy when I fell head over heels with her writing and story.

Maddie is a character who could be your average young adult if not for being the President's daughter, but still, you can easily relate to her. She has beliefs and she isn't afraid to do whatever she has to do to make her point across, but she's also very impulsive and doesn't think through everything which ends up with consequences. People easily love her because she is natural; she won't hide her true self.

I liked her relationship with her father. I liked that he wasn't portrayed like a distant man, but like a man who sees the qualities and flaws in his children and instead of stopping them, simply shows them other ways to accomplish them. I liked that kind of President.

Jake's character is intense. I can't find a better way to describe him. He has seen so much in war and the aftermath isn't easy to deal with. He has a hard time opening up to this part of his life with Maddie who just wants to help him. He has a good heart though and he's the kind of guy ready to do anything for those he loves or those he believes need his help which is why I believe him and Maddie are perfect for each other.

His relationship with his mother isn't easy. She is the Vice-President, running to be President and she is more into politics than her own family. She isn't an easy woman and I had a lot of difficulties with her.

Maddie and Jake together were adorable. I liked how their relationship developped. It was the perfect balance between easy and hard. It didn't happen over night, but little time to little time as they spent more time together. They were what they needed to one another. Where she is impulsive, he's more cautious, but in their relationship, its just the perfect match.

A lot happens in this book and I don't want to spoil anyone, so I'll just say that you will go through a rollercoaster of emotions throughout the book.

Overall, this was an amazing and quick read. The author's writing and the story will have you hooked from chapter one. I'm really looking forward for the next book in the series.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO NICHOLE CHASE, INKSLINGER PR and HARPERCOLLINS for giving me the opportunity to read and give an honest review this book.

I really enjoyed this book. Along with the romance, it sheds light on what veterans go through when they return home and just living day to day. I enjoyed Jake and Madi as characters and was invested in them. I love that both characters are flawed and enjoy that Madi has a passion. I have enjoyed both books I have read from Nichole Chase. I'm looking forward to reading more.

Bedmates is book one in the American Royalty series. I wasn't really sure what to expect when I started this novel but was pleasantly surprised to find a vegetarian leading lady that is passionate about animal rights with a yummy veteran as her love interest.

We start off meeting Maddie McGuire, the President's daughter when she attempts to break into a facility to free animals that had been tested on. Of course, she's caught and winds up having to do volunteer work building houses for homeless veterans with Jake Simmons. Jake is the Vice President's son and a veteran that was wounded in Afghanistan. While they weren't exactly at odds in the beginning, they do quickly become closer and wind up falling into a relationship. This couple makes sense to me since both understands the hardships of being in the public eye all the time and there was some nice chemistry between the two. This wasn't exactly an easy going book on either of them though like I initially thought it would be, some personal demons arise and jeopardize their relationship along the way.

Bedmates shows some strong factors that I'm really glad were included in the story. Jake is still mentally trying to recover from the war and it's taking a toll on him. Maddie is trying her best to be supportive and not pry into the matter but just wants him to find someone he can trust to work through it. The character's depth and details that were included were a really nice touch and made the story work for me. All in all, if you enjoy Contemporary Romance with veterans, or politics involved I think you'd love this book!
