3.5 stars. a really great read, with a lot of heartache and laughs... very deep though and i'd have loved a bit more love and laughter for the couple as they worked through their issues.

Emotion packed!! I LOVED this book! The heroine, Willow Ambrose has cut off any reminder of the first 23 years of her life. She's lost weight, changed her name and moved on with her life, or so she thinks. She counts the last time she saw her famous parents by how many pounds ago. Enter HOTTIE Navy Seal Nick Hershey, someone who rejected her in college and sparks fly! I felt really bad about what Nick was doing FOR her because it just felt sneaky to me! But in the end I could see that Willow really needed that to happen.. sorry no spoilers from me! Roxanne St. Claire writes a wonderful, heart--wrenching novel about 2nd chances! It is a MUST READ!

Roxanne St. Claire is an absolute master at weaving stories filled with characters that draw you into their lives and make you never want to leave. Whether they are experiencing a situation that's similar to your own life or something that's so far from your own reality it doesn't matter because you find yourself entranced, and in love from the first word to the last.

Barefoot in White is absolutely no exception. Willow and Nick have a history, and both come to their new relationship with baggage and scars. Together they find that love really can conquer all but only if you are willing to take that leap of faith and trust.

An author who is permanently on my auto-buy list for life.

My review cross-posted from Wit and Sin: http://witandsin.blogspot.com/2014/05/review-barefoot-in-white-by-roxanne-st.html

Barefoot in White is a gorgeous, emotional story of love, forgiveness, and new beginnings. Roxanne St. Claire has written many wonderful books, but Nick and Willow’s is my absolute favorite of hers to date.

Willow is now on my list of all-time favorite heroines. She’s fought hard to shed not just weight but the identity she held for the first twenty-six years of her life. Willow is a strong, successful woman but that doesn’t mean she’s invulnerable. Her past haunts her whether she wants to acknowledge it or not, and my heart absolutely broke for her. I loved Willow, plain and simple, and I wanted her to find happiness both with herself and with Nick. Nick Hershey is as sweet as his name suggests. In college, he unwittingly hurt Willow, but there’s no doubt that he deserves a second chance with her. Nick’s sexy as hell, but it’s his good heart and his own scars that really drew me to him. He and Willow have amazing chemistry and their story had me avidly turning the (digital) pages of Barefoot in White. However, Ms. St. Claire doesn’t make things easy for them. Neither acknowledges it at first, but both Nick and Willow have some healing to do over the course of the story, and it was a wonderful process to watch, ups and downs and all.

Barefoot in White is the first book in the Barefoot Bay Brides trilogy, which is set in the larger world of Ms. St. Claire’s Barefoot Bay. A couple of past favorite Barefoot Bay characters have cameos, but aside from our hero and heroine the supporting cast is made up of mostly new faces. The standouts are, of course, Willow’s friends and partners, Gussie and Ari. The two of them cracked me up and I can’t wait for these candy-betting wedding planners to get books of their own.

It’s hard for me to be objective when reviewing Barefoot in White because so many things about this story touched me. I laughed, I teared up, and I smiled when Willow and Nick got the happily ever after they so deserved. I absolutely loved Barefoot in White and I cannot wait to read the next Barefoot Bay Brides story, Barefoot in Lace!

Note: I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I did enjoy reading about the Barefoot Bay Brides, and may be interested in reading more in the series. While I realize that Willow was fairly old to be a virgin, I did find it over the top that is was so devastating to her life. I feel that she made a choice, perhaps not for all the right reasons, but it really isn't that life altering.
The relationship between Willow and Nick was quite engrossing. I enjoyed the playfulness and the caution that they both took, despite the feelings that they had for one another. To me it just demonstrated a greater sense of caring. To hear about their different interpretations of their much earlier relationship was also interesting.
I did think the story ended very quickly. Resolutions were arrived at with little to no explanation. A major life issue, the relationship with her mother, seemed to be insignificant at the end of the book. As for the final few lines - seemed a little over the top and unnecessary to me.

I gave up on this book when I realized that it was a story about how the boy rejected the girl when she was fatter but now that he found her a few years later and she's skinny and fit and such and they're on a beautiful island, he can fall for her. No thank you.

"When I'm finished, you will see yourself as the beautiful, sexy, sensual, desirable, and smokin'-hot woman that I see every time I look at you."
Something cracked inside---some ice around her heart, maybe? Or maybe it was the wall of protection she'd erected for so long she couldn't remember life without it. Or perhaps it was her willpower to say no to anything. She didn't know, but all Willow could do was hope she didn't shed a tear while Nick Hershey gave her a gift she'd feared she'd never get or deserve.
Adoration.

This story moved along at a pretty quick clip while dealing with some pretty heavy issues. The heroine has big mommy issues, her mother was a model and apparently brow beat her and tried to control her, forcing her daughter into her image. This severely backfired and made the heroine turn to food for comfort. Hero is on medical leave after losing hearing in one of his ears and is dealing with guilt stemming from someone he cared about dying because of a decision he made.

The heroine is definitely the strongest of the characters with her more front and center and her thoughts and feelings flushed out more. There is a lifetime movie mechanism that throws a wrench at our couple just when they might get things figured out that eventually flows into a super rushed bow tie ending; our mother daughter reunion is solved far too quickly for the 80% of the book where the heroine goes over and over how her mother emotionally messed her up. Our hero is a little wooden with a basic military man guilt storyline and I didn't feel we delved into him as well.

The romance was rushed and it felt like our couple never got to really move and shake around with their bonding as the quick pace I mentioned along with heroine's emotional issues took over. There was a lot of stuttered stop and go between them.

The epilogue was cheesy ridiculousness and had me rolling my eyes. I got this as a freebie and its better than most. If the author delved deeper and flushed things out more while having our leads have more interactions outside the hero's villa and pool, this would have been better. I would give another in the series a try.
