I just read back-to-back five star reads for the first time in my life (this & Take My Hand)! 😭 They were both fictional stories with very, VERY real implications that made me feel all the feels. They are also both MUST READS because of their perspective and impact.

We Are Not From Here was full of trauma and heart break. 💔 It was a raw, real, heavy, and incredibly important book. In it, Sanchez wrote about the neverending trials of three kids from Guatemala, who went on their journey for freedom and safety. I'm not a big cryer, but I wept as horrible injustices were told page after page, chapter after chapter. All I wanted to do, the entire time, was hug the main characters. 💓😭 I wanted to be able to look them in the eye and truthfully tell them that everything would be okay - that they mattered. That their life and feelings and family and history all mattered.

When y'all pick up this book (because you NEED TO), make sure to take breaks to breathe. It's another book that I encourage you to read with others. Shout-out to the @the.storygraph for its spoiler free buddy reads and thanks to @bookclusion for organizing the read with @stories_and_sweaters & @lizzy0305! 🤗

This book was tough, and every time it seemed like things were getting slightly better I was proved wrong. I enjoyed that this wasn’t a sugar coated version of what this journey is like though, and I enjoyed the different perspectives of the characters. But man did this one hurt.

Not only is this an incredibly important book, it is incredibly well written as well.  Every U.S. resident should read this to fully understand the situation at the border. It is a refugee crisis, no matter what terminology is used to hide this fact.

I personally didn't enjoy this book, but I think everyone should read it, to understand critical things migrants from South America and Mexico face when heading to the United States border.

I Liked:
-The flawed main characters
-Depiction of brujas in the book (since I don't know a lot about them)
