I was hyped to read this book because the storyline reallye intrigued me. At first it sounded a lot like "The last Girl" which I read a few years back, but it's actually quite different.

The book itself was sometimes a little bit... boring. There wasn't a lot happening in the first half of the book. Of course that's mainly because we got to know the future and how everything works, but a little bit of action would have been nice. It kind of irks me a little that Eve isn't really doing a lot about her situation. Of course she is under 24 hour surveilance, but still, she knows someting isn't right in this world, so she should be curious to find out more.
The second half of the book felt a little bit rushed. Suddenly everything happened so fast with Bram escaping and him becoming the leader of the rebels (really, that fast?).

I really liked all the ideas about the future though, what kind of technical improvements they made and how they woved them into Eve's life. Although a 2.5 mile high tower seems a little unrealistic to me, but hey, it's the future!

So the ending still had me hanging and I'm excited for the next book and hope it will impress me more (and have more action!)

Ends on a cliffhanger and that's not how you end a story!!!!

  • Exciting premise, very immersive world
  • Some real shock moments with impact
  • Some cringe writing. A line in the book was genuinely "what a noob"
  • Action scenes aren't great. They're fine.
  • It's YA so (spoiler) of course they let a 16 year old lad lead the rebellion. Why not?
  • The real wins of this book are Eve's worldview and how it is rocked in the first two thirds
  • It doesn't make sense scientifically. But I don't think questions about a genetic bottleneck are super relevant - it's a story and I like to see what people can create from an idea, even if yes (quite obviously) it's scientifically inaccurate.

I binged the first 200 pages and loved it, then I wasn't too interested.

Not an AMAZING quality book but it hit the spot as an easy dystopian read with romance ✨
