Anyone who knows anything about this series knows the books are forever long. Just finishing one feels like a major accomplishment. That said, I do mostly enjoy this series... this installment maybe more than the last two. There were certainly sections where I had to force myself to continue reading (having already seen the series, I already knew, at least in the broadest sketches, what was coming), other stretches where nothing much seemed to happen, and still others where I lost myself for hours in the story and hardly came up for air. After plodding through the first half over the course of a month, I read the last half in about four days.

This one dragged at parts, and some sequences (graphic violence and sexual assault) were very painful to read. But, when outlander is good, it's GOOD. The characters are the core of the story and it's so interesting to see how their relationships grow and change.

Fantastic as they all are!

The entire series is slow reading. You want to make sure you read every word so that you don’t miss anything! But with so many twists and turns you will be enthralled. It took me a while to finish but I’m ready for the next book!

I feel pretty strongly that books 4, 5, and 6 could have been shortened significantly and put into 1 book. I can't deny Gabaldon is a phenomenal writer, but I honestly couldn't tell you what the main point was of each of these books. They're extremely long, the plot points blur together, and it seemed to lack any real overarching theme which leaves me yearning for the urgency/excitement of books 1 and 3.
