For context, I read this book as an almost 30 year old woman to fulfill a prompt in a reading challenge. As such, I do think this book would be more enjoyable for the appropriate aged audience i.e older children (10 yrs to 12 etc). The premise of the plot is objectively interesting/funny and the writing would be better suited for that particular audience. This is definitely not a children's book that translates well into an adult read.
Also it was cool/and should also be considered that the author was 12 when he wrote this! Pretty cool :) Also yay for Canadian writers and books set in Canada.

Just re-read the book after picking it up for my daughter.
It is a classic for that age range and I highly recommend it.
