I went into this book not knowing it was going to be transcripts of interviews, and at first, it was very shocking and hard to read. Once I got past that and started to look past the formatting I wasn't used to, I was really able to enjoy this book for its absolutely amazing content. The people he interviews are all very interesting and from a diverse spectrum of professions. The conversations are mostly formatted about their lives work and passion projects, and once you get to read about what these people have devoted their lives to, you get drawn in as well. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a break from the norm and wants to learn more about different professions. This book really helped me gain interest in starting my own passion project and pushed me to want to do more with my life than just the average 9 to 5.

An excellent collection of essays with modern scientists in various fields. Many names are instantly recognizable, others are unknown (in America, at least). The conversational format makes even complicated topics accessible to interested readers.

Imagine you're in Paris for the first time, you're in the midst of a tormented love affair, and you've just smoked a pack of gauloises and had three espressos -- that's what it's like to be a baby.

I have to say I was a little disappointed in this book.
I was hoping to read about fascinating people and their fascinating work.
But the interviews seemed superficial and the questions felt odd.
Maybe it was just not the right book for me.

another humbling and interesting read on how scientists view the world and its tiniest matter. made me as a reader realized that despite their achievements and massive knowledge on their fields, they are all still humans and they too are still learning about this complex world

Excellent read. Scientists talk in layman's terms about the most groundbreaking parts of their work, their love of science and the role of discovery in human nature. The breadth of disciplines -- anthropology, genetics, medicine, quantum physics -- and the brilliance of the scientists themselves made each interview intriguing.

I learnt so much about evolution, the economy, ethics and the minds of scientists. Also, strangely, German stereotypes. Possibly one of my favourite books.
