This has got to be the most tedious of the Wimsey mysteries. I think at least 40% of this book could have been cut and it would have been a more interesting story. It seems like Wimsey is barely present and we spend too much time on each police officer’s theory of the way the murder played out. I did a lot of skimming to get through this one.

This book has the best preface of any novel I've ever read. The first and last chapters are absolute delights. The middle, I could pretty much do without.

This was passed onto me by someone who really enjoyed it... but I just didn't get it. Too many similar characters made it inaccessible and uninspiring to me.

Oh my goodness - a book of timetables and explanations! I really missed some good characters, a sense of where we were and of course Bunter! Not my favourite Wimsey!

There were definitely pieces of this that made me want to read another Dorothy Sayers, but on the whole I found it pretty tedious.
