First things first, if you're interested in starting this series please look up the content and trigger warnings before hand. There are some themes and topics handled in this book that could make people uncomfortable and it's important to be aware of that before going in.

That being said, Daggerspell is a compelling fantasy novel. The setting was rich and the characters were incredibly charming. Jill had my heart from the minute she was introduced and Nevyn is fascinating. The magic system is interesting enough but not so complicated to be confusing to the reader and the idea of the actions of the past coming back to bite you runs through the book in an interesting way.

The book is very slow, so if you're looking for something fast this wouldn't be your first choice. The slow pace is made up for, however, by Kerr's beautiful writing. Descriptive and entrancing I often found myself reading for longer than intended when I picked the book up.

One last thing of note, I suggest keeping a notebook near by while reading. The jumping around of dates got a bit confusing at times and having a note of when and where you are without needing to go back to the beginning of the section is very useful.
