This was a good book. I liked the POV change and it continued the overall plot well.

I enjoyed learning more about the individuals in this universe and seeing the dragonets of destiny evolve further. I thought Tsunami had excellent character development, and we learned a lot about her as a young dragon, as well as her feelings regarding her fellow dragonets and the seawing kingdom. The author did an excellent job explaining the places, tones, and atmospheres without overwhelming readers with too much information. The writing was simple but entertaining and informative. This book's plot was quite well thought out, and I enjoyed it. The mystery of who was murdering Queen Coral's heirs was intriguing, adding a good sense of intrigue and suspense to the plot while also providing insight into the power dynamics of the seawing kingdom. I liked this book better than the first because there was less information dumping and more character and plot progression. I'm enjoying this series and intend to continue with it.

Strong character growth, particularly interrogating the idea of leadership.

Trust, family, protection, with a quiet nod to education and literature.

Tsunami not having learnt her native language of Aquatic was a lovely touch.

The second entry into this series and for arc 1 also feels very average to me, it's the next book where I think the series really shines. But that's jumping ahead. I would say this book definitely starts out on the weaker side, but as it goes on it starts to improve. Special mention to the climax for being really well done (and as someone who loves a good murder mystery, which I did NOT expect from this series at all. Finding out
Tsunami's older sister Orca, enchanted her statue to kill any future Seawing princess'
was something I did not see coming). The pacing feels a little weird in this one. We do get to explore the world of Pyrrhia more, which does work in the book's favor to me. Though some people may find this to be the "filler" book of the arc. I do like how Tsunami learns to move past her "It's my way, or the highway" attitude and impulsiveness in this book, I just wish her character development hadn't been erased in future books down the line. And this does play into my own rating of the book since Tsunami is my least favorite of the main group. Queen Coral is also frustrating to me as a character introduced here. For me, this was the weakest book of the first arc, but I don't dislike it at all.
