Si conocen la letra de la canción "Man in the mirror" de Michael Jackson y consideran que tiene algo de razón, no necesitan leer el libro y de paso se ahorran el tonito risueño/condescendiente de los personajes.

This is the first leadership book I have ever read. I have never like the idea of leadership books or self-help books. I thought they are like diet plans - somebody making a lot of money by repackaging ineffective or partially effective products and marketing it as a revolution.

This book is partially a repackaging of old ideas, but also has some things I've never heard. The basic premise is that people react to you based on how you feel about them as much as, or more than what you do or say to them. For example, you could use effective leadership techniques, but if you are doing it to manipulate people into doing what you want they will sense your insincerity and react against it. On the other hand, if you really care about somebody you could correct their behavior and they would react to your desire to help them, even though the words you use may be hard for them to hear. The next idea is that most people are "in the box," which is the book's code for deceiving yourself and seeing the world as if it revolves around you. Self deception starts when you do or do not do what you know you should have done. You begin rationalizing your behavior by vilifying others (ex: She should have taken out the trash, I haven't had a chance to sleep late in weeks. She is lazy...) and inflating our own virtues (I work harder than anyone I know...I deserve to sleep in...). Once we do this, we are dealing with people in a way that provokes confrontation and resentment. The book deals with how we get in this situation and how we get out. Basically, we want out and we stop deceiving ourselves.

While these are new ideas to me, they are based on gospel principles. The secret to success in the book is to care about others and see them as people as good as yourself. (Love one another, even as I have loved you.) Overall it was a very quick read and worth the minor investment. It helps to clarify or remind us of a problem we all deal with, at least occasionally.

Not my favorite.

This book does the number one mistake in my opinion for self help books: stating that it is a cure all.

It does have some helpful examples, but for the most part it was a long winded way of getting selfish people to think of others. I kept waiting for them to cover people being too selfless and they never got there. This book doesn’t really go into boundaries which seems like a massive oversight.

Leadership and self deception

Getting out of the box - this book is useful if the insight you need is to be more selfless - if you need insight go to therapy

PERSONAL - first day at state hospital

Couple in the book reminds me of PERSONAL - apology vs repair (who is being considered)

Main takeaway- care about the people rather than just how they effect you or if they are a problem to you

The point isn’t to be out of the box, but to get out of the box

Do you want justification or success

DISAGREE self deception is the cause of all people problems

Both times I read this book were thought provoking and enjoyable. When I start this book, I always assume I’m not “in the box” but by the end I can see all the ways I could get out of the box and stay out of the box. I like to think I’m always a little better after a re-read.

4.5⭐️: a very informative read that helped open my eyes about how I have been in the box towards some people in my Life and how I can do better, not just for them but for myself and how to apply it in every aspect of my Life. Will def try and reread this one every year or when I feel I need a refresher!

Recommendation from my dad! Interesting and thought provoking. It was written as a story rather than an instructional book, which helped make it easier to understand.

I really enjoyed this non-fiction book. Whether you want to improve as a company or just as a person in your relationships with others, this book teaches amazing principles that will be very applicable. It is also told in story format, which makes it very easy to digest and easy to relate to.

SUCH A FABUOUS BOOK! I read this for a college course, but it was truly a life changing mindset shift that has impacted not only my work/business life, but my personal relationships and how I see people. 100/10 would recommend that EVERYONE read this. It's quick, captivating, and easy to digest! Take the time to add the secrets in this book to your brain!
