Having been in the musical adaption (I played Joan) earlier this year, I already knew what to expect from the graphic novel and I was not disappointed. Alison Bechdel is an incredible writer and I commend her for her brilliant use of visuals to tell the story of her tragic upbringing.

It had been on my periphery for so long, I felt like it was time to read it. I'm glad I did. Family relationships are complicated, and this one is only exacerbated by the secrets.
