Long story short, Esposito found that there was a contradictory form in Foucault's writings when juxtaposed on modern acts such as the bombing of Afghanistan in order to spread humanitarian aid. He then springboards this into the discussion on immunity, in which the state can commit acts of violence and commit acts of coercion on subjects in an effort to act as the great state-body metaphor's immune response. It is an extremely profound argument, and important to taking discussions on biopolitics into the world of the war on terror.
