I really wanted to like it but I found it really boring.

What a beautiful, visual novel - as lyrical as it is heartrending.

This was beautifully written. The descriptions in this book are out of this world. I just loved Nour, and I also really enjoyed the way that Nour's synesthesia was worked into the narration. I also really enjoyed the parallels between the story of Rawiya and how Nour was experiencing her own life. I didn't always feel compelled to come back and read it (too stressed maybe) but this story is evocative and heartfelt.

Okay- this book broke my heart into a billion little bits.

The Map of Salt and Stars alternates between a 12-year-old girl named Nour moving to Syria with her family in 2011 and a young explorer named Rawiya going on a grand adventure several centuries earlier. I was significantly more invested with Nour and her family, but Rawiya's story was special too.

If you like more lyrical and descriptive books, try this one out! It's a gem.
