A fun magical academia book. It’s got the typical YA pacing issue where something that should happen over months happens in a week. It oscillates between funny and cringy so mileage may vary by your sense of humor

I never EVER thought I would love a book with vampires, but look where we are.

If I was trying to be really critical of this book, I'd probably give it four stars. But, to be totally honest, I went into this book for a fun time and got even more laughs and swoons than I bargained for! Crave is perfect for fand of Twilight and witty, snarky girls. The story takes the tired tropes of a girl and her vampire as she stumbles into a supernatural world and flips them on their head, offering meta-commentary, snark, and humor along the way. It may read a bit like fanfic, but it's delightful enough that it doesn't detract from the story at all. And in my opinion, reading like a good fanfic is NEVER a bad thing. All in all, Crave is truly fun and I'm definitely picking the next book up very soon!

Couldn’t read/listen to “AF” or “FML” one more time

My mom used to tell me that if I kept rolling my eyes, they would just get stuck up in my head - reading this book, that actually became a real concern. This felt like some poorly written Twilight fanfiction (and I didn't think that one was written very well). As I mentioned in my update, I listen to the audiobook for this, while following along with the e-book. I don't understand why the phrase "af" was used so liberally throughout this book, plus "fml" when it wasn't ever written that way, and saying both those acronyms out loud is the same amount of syllables as fuck my life and as fuck. For the number of times it was used, it sounded like a lazy 17 year old writing this and I hated it.
Also hated the instalove that was going on in this book. You've known each other for a week, and you're literal children, no this is not the love of your life. So much eye rolling from me. "I hadn't ever thought he would be capable of this" - and how often were you thinking of his capabilities in the three days you had known him? There was so much over exaggeration throughout the whole book, and it drove me out of my mind. It all sounded so ridiculous. And did you know that Grace thinks Jaxon is super sexy? Because she may have mentioned it a time or twenty. Pick a different adjective.
When I started reading this, I had added the rest of the series to my TBR, and by the 25% mark, they were all removed because I can't bear to listen to another 500 pages about these characters for one book, much less the five other books that are to follow this. This was a big fat no thank you from me.
