Extasia is like The Village mixed with Handmaid's Tale and Salem, MA 1692.
.
Interesting ending; I wasn't expecting the
entire technological city under the mountian. Not many books mix scifi and actual witchy magic.

.
I liked the strong characters and the emphasis on female friendship. A witchy coven is always interesting to me. The magic system was strange and a little loosey Goosey for my taste, but different enough to be unique.
.
Strong gore and creepy ghost women, which I didn't expect from a YA but loved.

Gosh I loved this book so much until the twist and the end. Was going to give it 5 stars until then and the disappointment was so intense. 3.5 only because of how much I liked it before.

not really a review but just my thoughts i want to get out:

took me awhile to get into the book but once i did it was interesting and i love this genre. however, that being said, the ending was not what i expected and it somewhat ruined the story for me. i just feel it would’ve been better if it followed through with where it was leading to. otherwise, i enjoyed it.

Book started a bit slow/Amity was a bit hard to like. The gore in this is real!
WTF was that ending?

That wasn't even a plot twist that was a complete right turn upside down through a loop de loop. I don't know how to feel about it. It pulled a The Village???? Really? I don't really see what the point of that was. Why couldn't they have just recognized that these men hate women and they aren't going to take them seriously anymore? Why at the very very end do we learn that Haven is living in the modern age but doesn't know it? It was interesting for a moment because I thought Rage may possibly be insane and was never a witch, but that died quickly because she had a bunch of women who did witchy stuff with her, and also the underground people freaked out when Vengeance conjured fire, so they saw what she could do. We didn't really learn that much about the underground people either. How advanced were they? How big was their population? What are the odds that other women from the Coven were also told about the Devil, or didn't come from a place that knew other people survived the war and tell Amity about it? This story really focused on Amity and didn't really integrate the Coven or anyone else that much into her story.  Also, Amity and the girls she brings into the coven learn magic so quickly, I guess that's fine but kinda didn't make sense since they just guessed at words and could barely read. But did they pick it up quickly because they were unnaturally gifted? I'm not sure. I liked Sawkill Girls waaaay better.

Wow. Culty and witchy. The perfect combination that simply cries out "Read Me Now" I was slightly lost and super confused up until 30% into the book. So much was happening, jumping between strange sightings, death and a new magical forest, a coven and soooo much more. I definitely wasn't expecting a full on religious cult but after getting halfway through the book the plot started to come together and things started making sense. The rage was real, I hated every single man in this book. I rooted for the witches but couldn't find myself growing emotionally attached to any of them. Some of the culty scenes were so weird and just unsettling and my god did I question everything. In the end I enjoyed reading it and was entertained.
