A book that keeps me going back. Whenever I waver in my life I go back to read the chapters. Devdutt Patnaik has converted an ancient text into a contemporary read. Making it relate-able to our current world.

This book is an illustration of Bhagavada Gita. I have two Bhagavada Gitas but whenever I have tried reading them I couldn’t make it to more than 6 to 7 verses. This is because normally not everyone can read Gita in one sitting because it’s not only a book it’s a way of life and just like we live life day by day, moments by moments, ages by ages, similarly we read Gita. Gita is said to have all solutions of your life problems. What mithya is what satya is, everything is there in Gita.
I was eager to read Gita and the verses I have read in Bhagavada Gita have always excites me to read more as they are way beautiful to implement in one’s life.
This My Gita is a beautiful illustration of Bhagavada Gita. It will make you aquatinted with all the aspects of Bhagavada Gita in a simpler way. My Gita has stories, history, reasoning of the verses told by Shri Krishna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra before the war was about to commence.
The name of book suggests that every individual grasp Gita in its own way, you may learn something else from Gita, I may learn something else, hence Gita teaches every individual a lesson that is unique to him as per his situations, thus My Gita is how Pattanaik grasped Bhagavad Gita. Because Gita in real is just a verbal illustration by Sanjay to Dhritraashtra of the conversation between Krishna and Arjun. No one knows what actually been said by Krishna there but what Sanjay told Dhritraashtra.

Like Devdutt says, 'my Gita' is his interpretation of 'the Gita'. Disclaimer: The 18 chapters in 'my Gita' do not follow the order in 'the Gita'. It's nice to see parallels being drawn with Ramayana while paraphrasing parts of Krishna's song to Arjun - something you might not find in 'the Gita'. A lot of ideas put by Devdutt in his thematic version are thought provoking. However, to be frank, most of the diagrams were just unnecessary. This narrative has his pluses, but it's not as charming as Jaya and now that I've read three books by him, I feel each of them is just a quick tour of the epics and I've come to a realisation that there's so much to learn from these epics that it cannot be summarised in thin books by quoting events from the story but not telling the whole story. So if you're looking to really read Gita, I'd suggest to pick up another version (I'm on the pursuit of the same). This version will only give you a glimpse of the same in paraphrases which leaves out the possibility of you trying to understand the metaphors in the language. "You and I experience life differently"

A really beautiful perspective and interpretation.. Devdutt Patnaik's words feel like those of a wise grandpa.. Worth saving this book for a few generations to relate and understand the depth of the Indian Culture better.

I've always been plagued by this disease called perfectionism. Will always return to this book to remind myself that I'm actually in an infinite game and to chill tf out.

Great read. Sometimes it feels like the concept is just being repeated in different forms and analogies. I particularly didn't like the concluding chapters as it felt incomplete. I guess it's fitting as the Gita itself doesn't provide any conclusion and allows the reader to make its own conclusions. The further reading section at the end is very very helpful. The book will take a while to complete and I would recommend it to complete in your own pace. Rushing through this book won't help.
