This book is trying to be inclusive; however, it includes a lot of comments such as "Families love to be together!" which just isn't always true. It also has some odd choices in the illustrations such as a family of a white male-presenting Navy sailor, an Asian-looking female-presenting person with a diaper bag, and three children dressed alike who have blue hats resembling conical hats with no points. There are many other kinds of bi-racial families and same-sex-presenting parents; there are multiples, what look like could be adoptive families, two kids in wheelchairs (one wheeling themself and one being pushed), and one kid using fore-arm crutches. There were several illustrations of what looked like Asian women but I did not see any Asian-looking men.

This book is interesting to all children, even if they have a stereotypical, nuclear family. It offers children a variety of things to think about and explore. The story is age appropriate (K-4), and includes a plot- it follows the lives of two mixed children while they learn about families.

The illustrations follow the story well. They are informative, if not slightly stereotypical of different cultures. For example, Asians eat more than "soup, shrimp dumplings, and rice." It just seemed slightly stereotypical, but I understand what they were trying to teach in this section of the book.

The characters do provide examples of a variety of cultures, and there are not negative stereotypes (although, as stated above, there are a few generalizations). The "good" characters reflect a variety of backgrounds, and I really liked that. And there is a plethora of diversity within the story.

It's a great read for a classroom learning about families!

In this book readers see a wide variety of types of families. They also see some of the roles of family members.

I loved the different families they showed. There were the different foods they eat, the different activities, the different or similar ways they look alike. I can not tell you how much I adore this book. I want it for my personal collection!

A nice book to promote acceptance of different family types as well as educating children about how all families are different and may look different but they still centre around love. I like the message of the book and think it is very important to talk about in the classroom to create an inclusive and accepting class of children, however, I think the book is a bit boring as it seems very descriptive and not much of a story. The same ideas but presented differently would be more engaging for children and therefore more likely to stick with them and make a difference to their views.

A good book for reflecting on what makes a family. Many, many types of families are represented.
