All pieces are there, but it never goes anywhere. Main character is dull. The ending is interesting but it seems it tries to hook you up for the next part. I rarely leave bad reviews, but I do not see the hype

Not because the book was terrible, just because it really wasn’t my type of book. I couldn’t connect to the characters, the story was too slow and the world-building wasn’t imaginative enough to make up for it.

DNF @ page 90. I gave this more than 10% before I gave up, because I wanted to at least rotate once fully between ALL THE MANY POVs. Like the first book, there are just too many, and it makes the narrative too choppy.

Basically the only thing I do like about the book is the inclusion of a new POV character, Reivan, one of the Pentadrian army. Through her I got the first glimpses of the enemy and their society, which honestly seemed to be as rigid, theocratic, and harmful as the Circlians, aka the "good" guys. Part of me was hoping for some kind of subversion, that the Pentadrians were going to turn out to be the winners/heroes/good guys after all, but if this epic fantasy trilogy is about two theocracies dueling it out to see which one is better, well, you're both idiots, and I don't care who wins. I'm out. For good.

While there wasn't a big battle or anything, just a plague, there were still things that happened. I just wished we knew more about the characters that we saw in the last book.  Which is why I don't like when there's more than one pov if chapters. Well, they're not even full chapters but still. I liked characters from the first book that we don't see in the second. I liked of Auraya has been finally second guessing on what the gods wanted from her and what she did in the end. As soon as one of the gods started giving her too much attention, I was giving the biggest side eye. Like, really, such a guy. But honestly, I liked this more than the first because of what is progressing and I for sure want to read the last book.
