Course evaluation:

Personal Response: I thought this was a great introduction to poetry for young children; the poems are short and topics appropriate for this age level (dancing pigs, enjoying apples, playing with toy boats).

Evaluation: Brown alternates between free verse and rhyming poetry, and uses familiar vocabulary for young readers. The watercolor illustrations and use of white borders reflect the quiet calm of the text. The artwork also captures the setting of each poem, using color in particular to set the tone of mood of each poem. The tone of the book as well as familiar subjects make this age-appropriate and will delight young readers.
