Waid & Samnee make a great team. I really liked the characterisation of Natasha in this one.

An Open Letter to Marvel Film Executives

Hi Marvel Film Executives,

First off, big fan. Really, I love your movies. Guardians of the Galaxy? Flawless. Okay, so Avengers: Age of Ultron was a blight on the world, but this isn't the letter about that. Actually, it kind of is. Natasha Romanoff did not deserve to be written the way she was in that film. Natasha Romanoff is the Black Widow. She is complex, interesting, and badass. She has a rich backstory that deserves more than 5 minutes of screen time in a flashback that seems to think the worst thing done to her was being forcibly sterilized. How much that makes me sigh cannot even be measured.

I will forgive all the sins committed towards Natasha by your studio if you just please make a Black Widow movie. You have a huge audience clamoring to see it. I myself promise to see it at least five times. I will see it in my Black Widow dress and hoodie (which your merchandising did not provide me with because you guys also suck at marketing Natasha). Mark Waid and Chris Samnee's 12 issue Black Widow would serve as the perfect screenplay. It has action, suspense, drama, a love story... What more does a superhero movie need? It would be beautiful.

Look, I don't want to tell you how to do your job. Wait, actually, I do. DC is one-uping you guys right now, and that's a little sad. It's DC. Their movies consistently suck, but they have a Wonder Woman movie coming out this summer that looks fantastic. This is what your fans want. They want female superheroes given their own stories. I know Captain Marvel has been announced, but we have been clamoring for a Black Widow movie for years. Please make it happen.

Best wishes,

Lola
