This book was such a let down. I honestly did enjoy the plot and the characters/their relationships, but the book was almost unreadable because the writing was so pretentious. I don't remember having that issue with the first two books. It seemed like Olivie Blake used this book as proof that she knew lots of big words - she used "maelstrom" probably 7 times in the first hundred pages to the point where it was distracting. It completely ruined the pacing because as soon as I would get immersed in the story, she would lose me by going on some tirade where I had to look up every other word. Now I love learning a fun new word, but this book got to the point where I wouldn't process a single thing I was reading and I'd have to go back like 5 times which got to be extremely frustrating.
I had a lot of issues with the ending as well, without giving anything away, it just felt like Blake started writing everybody sort of out of character and adding things just for shock value.
All in all, was it worth the read? I honestly don't know.
