I love Dean Koontz. My mom got this book for me for Christmas. I have enjoyed his books that feature dogs or other animals prominently in the past because he is quite good at writing about dogs, being a dog owner himself. The characters were great in this, as usual in his books. But I agree with some of the other reviewers, that the ending is incredibly anticlimactic. It's almost like he was writing, and was really into what was going on until he either suddenly realized that he didn't know how it would end, couldn't end it in one book, or had a weird feeling that endings don't matter anymore. I don't know but... that was rather dissatisfying. Other than that, though, great, interesting book with some wonderful character development. Also the creatures he thought up were pretty awesome.

I couldn't finish this book. I usually like Koontz, but I could not get into the story, the characters were blah and all I could think about while reading about the creatures was that weird white cathuman meme that went around for a while. *shrug*

It's amazing how you can read a synopsis of a story and be intrigued. Then when you read the book, not so great as you thought. There was too many characters involved in the story but yet not all of them tied into the actual plot. I found myself skipping over some chapters because I felt the characters interaction had no relation to the main plot line and where the story was going.
The book was not very suspenful at least compared to other books I've read written by Koontz. Would I recommend it? No. Read a different Dean Koontz book.

This was my first Koontz book, but it will certainly not be my last. I thought this book was intriguing from the onset all the way through to the end. There were several pertinent plot stories happening at the same time, all very different and unique. They came together beautifully in the end and nothing was left up in the air. A very general synopsis of this book...two creatures are found by Grady Adams. These creatures are like none he has ever seen and he knows that he has stumbled upon something very, very big. Grady enlists the help of his friend Cammy, a veterinarian, to help uncover the mystery regarding these two unique and beautiful creatures. I loved the ending of this book!

This book was very different and I loved how all the characters had a role in the final outcome of the book.

Of those three categories, I'd say this fell into the "books I like." The book tells seemingly four or five tales, all revolving around a different main character. With about 40 pages left, I was trying to figure out how he was going to wrap everything up. He did so, but it seemed almost like he was telling two or three stories linked loosely with a common theme. This isn't to say it was bad, but I was almost anticipating everyone coming together and meeting, more so than in the way it happened.

It's not bad. It's not nearly the worst of his that I've read -- but it's also nowhere near the best. I'd give it a solid 7 out of 10.

So... As a huge Koontz fan. I loved the characters as usual and the character development... I felt that it just kind of petered to an ending... Most of Koontz books seem to fly full speed into the ending and I just didn't feel that exhilaration then relief that I usually find while reading Koontz. I have a bad habit of always wanting to look at the last page to see who is still alive, I wasn't even tempted to do that with this book. Not sure what it was. I do think that this story line has potential for continuation as a series if Koontz wants to though. Even though the ending came quietly I still was left wanting to know what is next.

I liked the way each story came together, but it left me needing more. Definitely not his best work.
