I'm quickly learning that "somewhat philosophical reflective meditations of middle-aged lonely Japanese women" is one of my favorite genres

I’m going to give the author the benefit of the doubt on this one and assume that the nuances and beauty of this work have been lost in translation. Because damn, this was fragmented, repetitive, and very boring.

The main character is abusive and wholly unlikeable, we’re not given any reason as to why she has separated from her husband but if I were him I would have kicked her out a long time ago. Nothing really happens. She spends a lot of time wishing her 3 year old was dead. I tend not to write reviews but feel compelled to on this occasion because I keep getting annoyed about what a dreadful waste of time it was.
