This was very cute, age gap, brother’s best friend romance.
Lena hadn’t seen her ten year long crush, Gavin in three years. The last thing she was expecting when she last minute had to go home for Christmas, was to see him staying at her family’s home. Lena was less than pleased to learn she would be staying on the couch while he stayed in her room after she felt so abandoned by him three years ago. Gavin was always a part of the family and had never explained to her why he left Christmas three years prior after a party.
How is she going to survive the holiday with him staying in her home, especially with how handsome and finely aged he is?

I loved the writing of this book and the emotions and care Gavin had for this family, especially Lena.

I... hm.
I wanted to like this because of found family tropes and the romance, but... The sudden changes in the tone were just too much - one moment Gavin is in despair about his past and future, his something-ship with Lena and the very next sentence is about him imagining sexy things with her - in VIVID details. And likewise with Lena too.
Can you say whiplash? That annoyed the hell out of me throughout the book. Do writers know we can have both emotional and sexy scenes and have them be completely separate but still work??
And the characters were too old for me to be behaving like this.
I'm going to go and just say that the writing style was not it for me.

I *loved* this book! There's so much pining! And longing! There's even miscommunication/lack of communication but it didn't make me want to throw my Kindle across the room!

We are reintroduced to Lena (from Give Me Butterflies) as she's heading home for the holidays. Recently unemployed, and suddenly alone in her rental, she realizes that she's lonely, but isn't sure she is worthy of a relationship. She's startled to find that Gavin, her brother's best friend and her long-time crush, has joined the family for Christmas after missing the past two.

Gavin loves Lena's family, the only family he's ever really known after spending his childhood in foster care. He's also loved Lena for as long as he's known her, but he's afraid he's not worthy of her love and doesn't want to blow up the family bonds he's built with her family.

However, the two are thrown into an increasingly tense series of interactions where they realize the depth of their feelings for each other. When stranded in town for a night, they decide to "just get it out of their systems." We know how that always goes...

I really liked Give Me Butterflies but I think Wreck My Plans is even better! Meadows does a good job of avoiding the main relationship feeling icky (there's an age gap, and Gavin definitely feels like a part of the family, but this never strays into any kind of taboo romance). Both of the main characters are dealing with the same fundamental challenge--feeling unworthy of each other--but for very different reasons and how they grapple with that is messy, but also realistic.

If you are looking for a holiday, small-town romance, I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Maybe it’s me?? Maybe I keep reading these brothers friend romances thinking that they will stay together and not come up with a dumb ass reason to be apart. Also these fmcs need to stop saying “he’s been like a brother to me” and then proceed to just over said brother
