Why Grizzly Bears Should Wear Underpants by Matthew Inman

I thought this was hilarious. Although some (mostly) female reviewers didn't enjoy the way women were represented in the book, all I can say is that the males were not shown in any better light. This isn't a reflection of the best of us, by any means, so why not laugh at ourselves at our worst? I couldn't relate to everything the author vented about, but I was still able to see the humor in his alternating disgust for and embracing of our modern conveniences and societal norms.

Another book by Matthew Inman, or the Oatmeal and another book that I really liked.

The book contains new and old comics. The old comics I mostly skipped since I still remember them (yes, even though it has been years for some), but I loved the new ones. They are funny, at times a bit rude (but that is the Oatmeal for you), crude, but 100% hilarious and at times I (and also my boyfriend) were nodding or laughing along with some of them. Like the email-addresses or the whole what to do when your pc doesn't work (Microsoft = reboot/Apple = buy new one/Linux = whole code thing + various other things).

The book features some short stories, some one pages stories, but also some spanning several pages that form one big story. It is quite varied and that makes the book unique and also more fun. Don't get me wrong, I love short one page comics, but at times I also love reading the bigger ones that take longer. Sometimes I just don't want things to end.

The illustrations, well what can I say, they are typical The Oatmeal style. Silly, the humans often look alike and a few other things. I think I could recognize his style anywhere.

However this kind of book is hard to recommend. You need to like the humour, you need to not mind that genitals are flying around or that curses are really overly present. I would say, try a few out, and see if you like them. There are also enough comics that are more mild and less harsh.

Downloaded this as a freebie YEARS ago, when I found The Oatmeal funny. Turns out, don't find it funny anymore.

While I've loved The Oatmeal for years, this is the first book of his I've been inspired to purchase. Now I think I need to own them all. My having read each of these online before did not take away from my enjoyment of re-reading them. I chuckled, I laughed, I groaned and winced. Some of my favorites are LITERALLY included in this collection. Now if only my kids would figure out how to efficiently load the dishwasher. Thank you, Oatmeal, for that thing you do.

I like The Oatmeal, but it is better in small doses than as a book. After a while, the art style gives me a headache.

But still some very funny bits.

Some of the new comics (those only appearing in the book) were less funny than what has appeared in the comic in the past. But they can't all be winners and I did laugh heartily at a number of them. Well worth the read.

My first reaction: “What is this??? I thought this was a children’s book?!?” Definitely not a children’s book.

I picked this up to fulfill a prompt of “Shrubbery on the Cover” and knew nothing about it. I guess this is what I get for preferring to go into books blind. It did get some chuckles, but overall, the humor was a bit too crude for me. I still have no idea what I just read…this is not for me, although, I do love Sriracha.

The artwork was done well as it got the point across.

I'm going to spare everyone the rough draft of this that led to a point and just get to the point.

For the love of god, can we start prosecuting people who put up YouTube videos that consist of them FILMING their television screen? This is one of the craziest things that people do on a regular basis. I mean, I get it, bootlegging is fun, and if you don't believe me, just ask any of the many bootleg Bart Simpsons.

Shut the hell up and get out of my way, you idiot indeed!

The thing is, it's not even the bootlegging that I'm upset by. It's the clicking on something and then finding out it was filmed in the worst possible way. Does ANYONE click on these and then say, "Well, this is a version of "Thriller" that comes from a mono TV into a handheld iPhone, but hey whatever"? Is anyone down with this?
