I guess I’m in the minority here because I really enjoyed this! I could have honestly given this a 5 too - not quite sure what my final numeric rating is. I think it’s likely closer to a 4 given I think this could have benefitted from a slightly shorter length?

While I don’t think the themes here are particularly revolutionary, I thought this was a fun take on millennial malaise. It’s darkly comedic and campy in execution, and I quite enjoyed the interludes of food descriptions and recipes. It feels very exaggerated and borderline surreal in retelling the events of the Supper Club, and the dual timelines we follow help motivate its creation quite well.

Some of the side characters feel a bit confusing to keep track of, and there’s a few sub-plots that feel underdeveloped (notably Roberta’s relationship with her mom and Aunt), but nonetheless it’s a fun read! None of the characters are particularly likeable yet they’re all dynamic and interact in interesting ways that kept me engaged.

Overall, certainly not a life changing book but one that I enjoyed quite a bit in terms of leisure! The open ending wrapped things up perfectly and I got what I expected out of this book.
