I absolutely love the inclusion of Petra and Stahl, I think this was my favourite if his books so far.

Dr. Delaware is certainly moody in this book, but overall, this storyline was much more enjoyable than the past few novels. Sturgis has a suspect from the beginning, but the way suspense is built throughout is quite nice. The identity of the "bad guy" wasn't a total surprise, but I enjoyed how all the clues came together.

I gave it another shot, and while not as bad as the previous two, still not good.

The story itself is at least 4 stars but derogatory remarks and the usage of slurs of all stripes (transphobic, racist, ableist, etc.) was heavy throughout and difficult to hear. If the protagonists would at least think about these remarks in a way to show their worthlessness, some of it would have been more bearable, but basically everyone except the main players say whatever and there’s no challenge anywhere.

I’ve noticed an uptick in these kinds of things as the series has progressed but the last few books seemed to have them every few pages. Hopefully this trend won’t continue and while saddened and annoyed, I can’t say I’m surprised for the time period the book was published.

An artist has been murdered at the opening of an exhibition of her paintings. Detective Milo Sturgis asks psychologist and friend Alex Delaware to help him with the case. They then discover that the case is linked to the death of a blues guitarist which is being investigated by Detective Petra Connor. The investigations leads to other linked cases and three more murders before the killer is identified but can they stop him before he kills someone who used to be close to Alex? Enjoyed this book - some of the series are not as good as others but this and the previous book have been enjoyable reads.
