Couldn’t decide if I found Irby to be insufferable or hilarious. Sometimes I felt she was trying too hard to make me laugh and other times I did genuinely laugh out loud.

If it wasn’t for the fact that I’d borrowed the book from my boyfriend and she’s one of his absolute favourite writers, I’m not sure I would have bothered finishing this book.

Whenever I'm low, which I've been lately, my therapist begs me to read something other than gore and horror and murder. So, here I am in an unfamiliar genre, funny & chill autobiographical essays! Samantha Irby is delightful and light and did a good job of resetting my brain a little. I can't really rate this because it felt too light for me, even though she hits on some heavy topics (poverty, parent death). But even though this isn't really for me (it's me, not Samantha), mostly this just reads like your good friend telling fun stories at a bar and I'm gonna keep going through the rest of her books.

I think this was supposed to be funny but it ended up making me want to cry??
I love the premise, and the fat and over 30 narrative snark was fun at times, but very uncomfortable more often than funny.

Trying to be fat positive in a society that generally hates fat people for just living, the dry humor sticks to the bones, but did not hit my funny bone.
Perhaps too sarcastic or ironic in tone, but maybe also too close to home for me to really enjoy???
I liked it?????
