Couldn’t decide if I found Irby to be insufferable or hilarious. Sometimes I felt she was trying too hard to make me laugh and other times I did genuinely laugh out loud.

If it wasn’t for the fact that I’d borrowed the book from my boyfriend and she’s one of his absolute favourite writers, I’m not sure I would have bothered finishing this book.

A very fun read that should be done with headphones in. Ms. Irby is such a fun writer, and I'll be reading more of her books in the future.

I think this was supposed to be funny but it ended up making me want to cry??
I love the premise, and the fat and over 30 narrative snark was fun at times, but very uncomfortable more often than funny.

Trying to be fat positive in a society that generally hates fat people for just living, the dry humor sticks to the bones, but did not hit my funny bone.
Perhaps too sarcastic or ironic in tone, but maybe also too close to home for me to really enjoy???
I liked it?????

fucking hilarious. i especially appreciated her essays on animals and working in animal welfare. sam has such a unique voice and her personification of Hellen Keller the cat and various other hypothetical inanimate objects had me gasping for air (with laughter). a great, quick, reflective and humorous read about relationships, identity, family, and adulthood.
