The same as the first volume, everything is very quickly resolved and nothing feels threatening because of it. I was also hoping for more backstory to shades of magic (where did Kell come from?) but it seems to only address the legend of Maxim. One more to go, maybe we’ll get an Easter egg?

This book kicked off running with the background of the first. Night of Knives is so mysterious, and I really enjoyed the different levels of challenges. The art style is really well done, especially in the covers and magic. I’m excited to see how it all comes together in the end.

Excellent! The story behind the famous Night of Knives was filled with action, peril, and devastating close calls. Familiar faces and fierce new enemies added to a fantastically written story. The gorgeous artwork added to the stunning use of magic. As with many graphic novels I adore, I wish there had been more! I really enjoyed this sequel and am excited to see what the next volume contains!
