I am a Rothfuss fan, pure and simple. While I preferred Slow Regard of Silent Things, this was an enjoyable read as well. What's not to like about following a roguish fae around for a day as he pursues simple joys and pleasures, offers mischievous advice to children, and helps solve a boy's problem using magic based in desire and making things more true to themselves.
I probably would have rated the story 3 stars (knocking off a a star or two) due to not being a fan of peeping tom behavior, even if the person being spied upon secretly likes it. Consent must be made prior to action and overtly communicated, and it was not always obvious to me that this had happened. Perhaps this is asking a bit much from a fae though.
I ultimately gave it 4 stars, though, because of the author's note at the end. Pat has a wonderful way of speaking about storytelling and children (I have attended two of his in-person signings and love listening to him talk or read aloud). I believe there is nothing more enjoyable to read than something that is lovely, honest, and true.
