This was such a cute and fluffy read. Haven't read something like this in a while and I really enjoyed it.

I don't know why this book's been getting positive reviews. I really tried to focus while reading this one but everything about it seems waayyy too cliched already, I got bored. I managed to finish it though. Still, I think the characters are way too angsty and both the writing and editing need a little work.

After reading not so satisfying (in other words, disappointing) books, this one is exactly what I needed to read. I really liked it! It provided the lovey-dovey romance that I really wanted to read. 5 STARS!

What a great read. This book tossed my emotions all over the place. I loved Chey. She is incredibly strong and focused. Even if she is more focused on appearances. She's intelligent and such a kick ass personality. I loved the fearless way she asked Colt to be her pretend boyfriend. I know I could not have done that. She took a heartbreak and tried to manipulate the situation.
Colt. Dreamy, lost Colt. What is it about the bad boy that gets me every time? I was so excited when he started to fall for Chey. I loved the combined strengths they provided as a couple.
This book made me cry. Not a lot do. But this one took me for a ride. I left feeling satisfied and happy.

Acabo de terminar de leer "Charade". Cheyenne estaba algo jodida.

Totalmente.

As I slowly watched this book climbing the Amazon Seller's list, I decided to cave and give it a try. I am a sucker for a fast moving book. I figure if it is moving that fast, it must be a winner right? I admit, I liked the book. There were a few problems with it, but I still enjoyed it overall.

I think the main problem I had with this book was the choppy beginning. The way it flowed and stilted at times, it made me think I was reading a short story -- or a novella. I thought it moved quickly, the story would jump around and expected to have it end quickly. This wouldn't be so bad if it were actually a novella and I was expecting it. With Charade though, it is a full length book and it definitely needs to have that worked out.

Once you get past the first half of this book though, it evens out and I found myself enjoying it. While Colt is suppose to be this bad boy, I never could see him as that. Yes he cusses a bunch, but cuss words do not make a bad boy. He is actually sweet, caring and smart. Cheyenne was not a favorite character of mine. She came across weak and whiny, something I don't think the author really wanted her portrayed as by the end of the book. Colt was the character that carried this story until the end.

The side characters were predictable and fell into the roles they were meant to. We have Andy, who is Cheyennes dorm mate who just happens to be a best friend when pages need to be filled. We have Adrian who is suppose to Colts druggie best friend, but actually has times of deep thought processes when a great listener is needed.

This book will also pull on your heart strings as a character is suffering from cancer. You hope for a good outcome, but sometimes life doesn't give you that. So tissues are recommended for those parts.

Overall, a good book that I am glad I read. I hope the author can create a better beginning though for the next book in this series so a reader is not tempted to put it down before getting to the good parts!

We may have been brought together because of a stupid ass game. Or because we were both screwed up, or needed a change, but we got somewhere important and that’s the only thing that counts.

REACTION AFTER READING THE BOOK

This book just made me so happy. It dealt with so much more than just the relationship of the characters. It dealt with life, pain, moving on and most especially love.

THE GIST

Cheyenne was so not expecting to see her boyfriend of two years to be fooling around with some other girl behind her back. To make things worse, that wasn’t the first time it happened. Chey was willing to do whatever it takes to make sure Gregory knows that he made a big mistake cheating on her. And whatever it takes includes her paying for someone to pretend as her boyfriend to make her ex jealous as hell.

Colt may seem like he doesn’t have a problem in the world but really he does. His mother is sick and may be dying any time soon and there was nothing he could do about it. So when Chey proposed the deal, he accepts it.

Chey and Colt have their own struggles. They had their own ways of dealing with the hurt and pain. But what they both didn’t expect was the game they started for the wrong reasons ended up something that they both needed.

FIRST IMPRESSION

My first impression of the book was not really that good. I mean the synopsis was good but the cover just didn’t do well with me. And to make matters worse, as I was reading the book I found out that Colt don’t look anything like that guy on the cover. That guy looked more like Gregory and I hate that guy’s guts to hell! Colt’s tattoos were missing and he seemed very happy wherein the Colt that I knew from the book was not so much until the later part of the book. It didn’t make a good impression but it made a LASTING impression on me. This book was AWESOME!

CHARACTERS

CHEYENNE

This girl was easy to love. I mean seriously. She’s been through a lot growing up. Her thinking all the time that her mom didn’t love her, that was why she left but all the while there was something else that happened. I mean she may have not been deprived of material stuff but emotionally she lacked a lot. She wanted to always be in control so that people around couldn’t hurt her like what her mom did. The only thing I didn’t agree on with her was the fact that she tried to shut herself out from the people who really cared about her like her aunt and uncle. Another thing would be how she thinks getting revenge and paying someone to help her with her dirty work will solve anything. But other than that I loved Chey. She was a great character to me. Damaged yet she tried to fix herself up and help Colt in the process too.

COLTON

I just love that fucking name. It sounds so sexy. Colt. Colton. Sounds so masculine and firm and geezz my imagination is going wild. Anyways, Colt like Chey was very easy to love. His situation wasn’t though. It was hard to be in the position wherein you are caught between doing what you want and doing what your dying mother asks of you and doing what everything you can to make sure she lives. I have never been in that kind of situation but I am pretty sure it was hard. Colt was once again, one of my tattooed book boyfriends. He wasn’t perfect. He agreed to be a hired boyfriend to make payments for his mom’s needs. That is saying something about him. He’ll do anything for the people he loves and cares about which also means Chey is one LUCKY woman.

ADRIAN

I like this guy. Reading about him here, he seems to be the type that was high all the time but could still manage to be a friend when you need him the most. And I am happy to hear that this guy will also get his own story told, so I am so excited to read all about Adrian. I’m sure I’ll enjoy him as much as I enjoyed reading about Chey and Colt.

CHEY + COLT = CONSTRUCTIVE LOVE

It’s not every day that you meet that person who will make a difference in your life. Chey and Colt didn’t expect that they will fall for each other. They weren’t expecting that they were each other’s missing pieces and that they will build each other up. Chey and Colt were both damaged characters but they healed each other. They made each other better and I think that is what I loved the most about this book. I loved how it showed that love sometimes does move in mysterious ways. Who would have thought Chey and Colt will fall in love with each other? Who would have thought that they were each other’s missing puzzle pieces?

He doesn’t have to say with what. I know he means his mom. That’s what we have – we’re both damaged with baggage and somehow it works. I never thought something like this would work for me.

QUOTABLE QUOTES

"He loves you," she adds. "And I love you. You're everything I could have hoped for, for him."

"I thought this was a game," I reminded him.
"Not anymore and you know it. Everything else in my life is all f*cked up. This is the only thing that's real."

?"I'm fucking good at this boyfriend shit. Who would have thought?"

”You’re fucking cocky is what you are.”
“You have the worst mouth.”
“I thought we decided women like my mouth. You like my mouth don’t you?”

”It’s not because of how I feel right now or how well we move together. It’s about him. Us. I know that it’s no longer just an empty thought. It’s the truth.
I’m falling for Colt.”

HIGHLIGHTS
> Alternating POVs is yet again another plus for me. The effect of the story would not be as full blown if it weren’t for that type of writing. We get to see both sides of the story. We get to see what Colt and Chey are experiencing and it gets you to relate with the characters more.

> It was not all fun and games. I liked how balanced everything was. There was just the right amount of humour, life issues and sexy time. Hahaha. Yeah I loved reading about the steamy scenes. Hahaha.

> The emotions of the characters felt so real.

> Chemistry between the characters was smoking!

> I liked the secondary characters: Adrian, Colt’s mom, Chey’s aunt and uncle and yeah even the asshole Gregory and the Redhead.

FINAL WORDS

I wasn’t really expecting much when I picked up this book for the buddy reads. I really wasn’t because honestly, the cover wasn’t doing much justice to this book.

I am so happy I picked up this book and read it. The story was beautiful. It wasn’t perfect but it was so good that it actually made me cry towards the end. I don’t know what it is with authors and their intent to always make the readers cry towards the end. Can’t they put it on the early part of the book or the middle? Jeez! But anyway, I am so not complaining. I loved having a good cry over a good book.

I’d like to emphasize again how good this book is. I loved the story, the characters, the pacing and the ending. Damn! I loved that ending. Hahaha.

This will definitely not be my last Nyrae Dawn book. I am so going to hunt all of your books down and devour it like this one.

Will I recommend it?

Highly!

CHARADE was a really good read, and I enjoyed it! It had a really good plot, nice characters, some hot damn chemistry, great writing, and it gives hope for the future, something I personally adore.

Cheyenne is the heroine of the story. She has a bad case of abandonment issues and panic attacks that no one knows of.  She's all about pretending and keeping others at arm's length.
She's weak, yet strong. Cold, yet loving. She has the biggest heart out there, but she keeps it under lock and key. I liked her enough, though I honestly connected more with Colt, oddly enough.

Colt is a pretty sexy guy. Everybody calls him an ass, but I didn't think he was that much of a jerk, and most of the time, he was extremely sweet to Chey. He acts all tough, but inside, he's pretty vulnerable.
I don't know what exactly there is about him, but I could connect a lot better with him than with Chey. She often seemed... a bit stupid. But I really liked Colt, even though sometimes all of his cursing made me cringe. He was just so sweet to Cheyenne, mostly when she wasn't expecting it, and his reactions felt very true to me.

Adrian is Colt's best friend... sort of. I like this character and am intrigued by him - so it's pretty awesome that the second book in the series will be his. He's a lot more "bad, dangerous, messed up boy" than Colt - actually doing drugs and partying all day long and all that... it makes me think he'll also be harder to "set straight"... or if they'll even succeed in that.

Andy is Cheyenne's roommate, and she's trying to be Cheyenne's friend. Of course, as Cheyenne's pretty tight on keeping people away, it doesn't really work out at first... Actually, I found Andy to be a pretty useless character. Aside from telling Cheyenne Colt is hot, she didn't do much and didn't really help forward the plot. Her only role seems to be telling Cheyenne about parties...

George is Cheyenne's ex, and honestly, I have no freakin' idea what she ever did with this douche. I want to squash him under my boot as the cockroach he is! Errr. Stay away from my Colt, dammit!

But something I can say about all the characters is that they were very believable as they acted and talked very humanly. It felt like real people, not characters in a book.

The romance was pretty darn good. First, I loved the whole deal of being in a fake relationship and actually falling in love while playing a couple. Second, it took them time, and you could see them falling in love through the book. It wasn't love at first sight, or Insta love, or anything like that. It built slowly, giving it a very realistic vibe. And they fit. They really worked for one another, shushing one another's panic, pain, and fears and giving each other a reason to continue and strive to be better. I think that's the best kind of relationship.  Third, they were fucking HOT together. Yeah, I cursed. It's a tribute to Colt.
One thing I feel I should mention... they have a lot of Sex. Most sex I've read of in New Adult so far (update: this has since changed greatly. This book is not that bad compared to others in this department...), and it's pretty detailed. See yourselves warned :P

I really started feeling this story toward the end, about 80% into the read, from the moment Colt's mother started dying (which is not a spoiler, as I think you find out she's very sick in the first or second chapter). My heart ached through all that until the end of the book, and it made me tear out. It was very emotional, very human, and very heartbreaking.

That's not to say the rest of the book is not good or anything like that--but those were definitely the moments I became "one" with the book.

The ending was just very adorable, and I love it ♥ it was so sweet and cute and so hopeful and lovely, and... ~sigh~ I want an ending like that in real life!!

There were a few things that were ignored in the book, and that kind of bothered me. Like the drug issue.
Colt sells drugs. Where does he get them? Can he really that easily get out?

Also, Cheyenne apparently has a cousin. Maybe I missed it - but I never heard of one being mentioned before the funeral, and it was a bit weird. Dunno why.

But aside from that, this book was really good. Great writing, good plot, great characters.
If you're a fan of New Adult and Contemporary, I definitely recommend it to you.
