Eine außergewöhnliche Frau, integer, loyal und aufrichtig; ein beeindruckendes Leben, ein absolut lesenswertes Buch.

A personal account of a trans woman living through National Socialism in Berlin. The personal touch makes the history of the time more human, more interesting. It is also one of the most comprehensive sources of queer history in Germany from 1930-1990. I found the post-Nazi world of East Berlin interesting as well, especially seeing how it affected the queer community.

Charlotte's writing style is a soft, feminine touch. It circles like a housemaid from one corner of her life to another. She shines her memories like pieces of furniture she adores. It is important to read her memories with great care as if it were another piece in Charlotte's Gründerzeit Museum.
