My love for this series is out of bounds and I'm so fucking excited that I get to go back into this world, albeit in a short while, through a novella. The Graveyard Shift features our favorite secondary characters, Garrett and Marika with the rest of the gang. The story started after the event that has happened in the last book of the series. This is a fast paced, action packed with lots of humor that we have come to know and love. Of course, I wish this was a full length novel because there is no way I'm not salivating to read more of Beep, Osh, Zaire and the epic battle that they will face. Overall, I loved it and cannot wait for more from this series!!!

Finished Graveyard Shift and OMG... For those few hours, I was so happy to be back in Charley's world! LOVED it so much! I laughed, I cried, I pleaded and then I hollered and did a little happy dance, and then I was all awww.... How can one little story make me so emotional??

description

There is absolutely no way for me to explain my love for the Charley Davidson series. I discovered this series back in 2012 and fell in love with the characters. Last year the author concluded the series with the 13th book, which was a very bittersweet moment for me. Spending seven years with a group of characters, you just can't help but feel a bond with them. They become more than just fictional characters, you start to care for them. So when I saw that Darynda Jones was writing a novella, I just couldn't contain my excitement. It was absolutely amazing catching up with all my favorite characters. I loved that this novella focused on Garrett and his relationship with the mother of his child, Marika. There is some strong tension between the two because she tricked him into getting her pregnant. He hasn't been able to trust her (which I can't blame him), but they will finally have to deal with their feelings when their lives are in danger.

I am usually not a big fan of novellas, but the author did an incredible job in telling a whole story. Would I have loved for it to be longer? Of course, I wouldn't want it to end. Fans of this series, you are in for some big surprises. I seriously can't wait for you to read this novella. My mind is blown, and I need Beep's spin-off to happen ASAP. I hope that readers who haven't heard of this series will get a taste and fall in love with the world Darynda has created. The Charley Davidson series is hilarious, sexy, action-packed and so emotional at times. It will have you laughing one moment and crying the next. This is one of my all time favorite series and I hope it will become one of yours as well. You may ask was it really a five star read. And my answer is YES, especially if you have read the series and feel a strong bond with the characters. But I still think it is a great introduction to the series for readers who are new to it.

Let's not kid ourselves, every Charley Davidson fan is going to read this novella, no matter what. This novella is like a small patch to cover some holes and give two of the side-characters from the series their HEA.
Also, we get to know more about Beep growing up.

The romance was mediocre and didn't pull me in. And the plot development about Beep was complex and without a point, but the Charley Davidson series got over-complicated 5 books ago, so we can say this is just staying in character. xD

The action and happenings surrounding Beep are intriguing in this story. This book serves as a precursor of what’s to come. Unfortunately, it lacked in paying enough attention to Garrett and Marika’s arc and lack of total resolution.

This is a novella that will have a ton of spoilers if you have not read the full Charley Davidson series.

3.5 stars, rounded up. While the last book was technically the last in the Charley Davidson series, this book picks up with Elwyn’s (aka Beep’s) story, five years after Charley’s and Reyes’s disappearance.

Garrett is still Beep’s primary protector, with Donovan and the bikers, Artemis the departed Rottweiler, and the Hellhounds as additional protectors. Beep continues to live with Reyes’ parents on sacred ground. Uncle Bob, Cookie, and Angel also make appearances, and it was nice having the gang all together (sans Charley and Reyes). Marika (the mother of Garrett’s five year old son, also plays a bit part in this installment.

There are some significant occurrences in this novella which move the plot closer to the final battle between heaven and hell, and I’m very interested in what comes next.
