I thought this book was pretty cute and a fast read. The action was fast-paced and the plot was interesting enough. I really liked the art. I have the feeling the next will be even better as we discover the secret of the two new additions to the team.

I would have liked a little more back story on the characters but it was an interesting story and I find myself wanting to read the sequel.

An evil taxidermist seeks rare animals (like a cross between a chicken and a rabbit...) to stuff. The animals don't wish to be stuffed or otherwise maimed, so, an escape plan is hatched, and the adventure begins.

The drawing is decent, the story flows fine. I did not, however, find it funny, though I got the distinct impression that I was meant to be laughing. It was okay (and my 13 year old agrees), though I don't need to read any further editions.

Good for middle school, kind of creepy- VERY easy to read. I probably don't need to read any more myself.

Cute and interesting, if a bit nasty (the bad guy is an insane taxidermist. This is in the children's section at my library, and while I won't exile it to another section, I'd recommend it mainly for readers ages ten and up.

Kinda not suitable for kids. I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I'm not quite sure what to do with this book.
Maybe it's because I'm particularly sensitive to violence against animals? But this is all in good fun...

I initially grabbed it because I thought it would be a shoe-in for my booktalks to upper elementary students leading up to the summer reading program. It's got an eye-catching cover, a hooky premise, and full-color, action comic book appeal.
But, uh, in the first few pages, the (admittedly snarky) characters talk about torture, beating, and a guy who has a thing for stuffing animals. Fine for 6th graders, prolly, but a little grisly for 3rd graders.

It fits handily with other shiny kids GNs - the works of [a:Doug TenNapel|45687|Doug TenNapel|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1239071739p2/45687.jpg] (we shelve him in YA), my lovely [b:Zita the Spacegirl|8879121|Zita the Spacegirl (Zita the Spacegirl, #1)|Ben Hatke|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1388260704s/8879121.jpg|13754899], [b:Giants Beware|12159923|Giants Beware!|Jorge Aguirre|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1317068387s/12159923.jpg|17130936]... but the juvenile appearance (and shelving) combined with the black humor, narrows the audience a little too much for me to use in outreach.

I'll be hand-selling it like a mofo, though!

Chickenhare and Abe are being taken to Klaus the taxidermist. Once there they meet to other "animals" - Banjo and Meg who are also about to be stuffed. They are able to escape and with the help of a dead goat Buttons they are able to defeat Klaus and his henchmen. I am not a real fan of graphic novels but I know my students are so I bought it for the library.

Jake's Review: This was an awesome book with lots of easy to read words. The illustrations are fantastic and it was really funny. This would be a really good book for both kids who don't like to read and for people who do. Both boys and girls of my age (11) would like it too. There are a lot of weird and funny animals and ugly bad guys.. Lots of good battles and ghost sheep. My favorite characters are meat and patty. I cannot wait to read more of this series & can you make it snappy mom wants me to read this other book and I really don't want to

Jake's Rating: 10/10

Mom's Review: This will be a huge hit with fans of the series Bone as it has the similar type of humour. The illustrations are unusual and creative and the characters are likeable. The storyline is fast paced and will keep even the most reluctant reader entranced. Nice message of friendship and teamwork, done in a non obvious way. Cannot wait to show this to the middle school customers at the Chapters I work at who are looking for a new graphic novel. Well done Mr Grine for coming up with something unique!

Mom's Rating: 7/10

Well, this was just delightful. I really enjoyed this quick, fun romp featuring weird animals and a scary Santa Claus figure. I think 10-13 year old boys would really enjoy this, and I think I would like to try to make this story into a book trailer.
