§
Aphorisms are truly a strange genre - making everything seem truer in their brevity, yet at the same time more banal.
§
The poets life is apparently a cliché of struggling with words, thoughts of art, death and a bohemian sex life, and literary jealousy.
§
This does not make it bad, just strangely familiar. As if you've read it all before. But maybe better phrased.

Sometimes hilarious, occasionally poignant.

A rarity in English today: a bona ride aphorist. A great place to start studying aphorisms before you tackle the true masters of the genre in La Rochefoucauld or Nietzsche or Cioran.

I will probably purchase this book sometime in the future, because a number of these aphorisms are completely arresting, and I was stopped in my tracks repeatedly while reading this book. Definitely wish to revisit.
