I've loved this book. I am so sad that I now only have one more book of this series left. I have loved every single one of them. This book was amaizing and left me feeling so so great. It also touched on our life's calling and that was a part of the story that I loved and found really really insightful.

Regina Doman understands human thought, emotions, motivations, and insecurities and speaks powerfully about them through this story. Although I strongly related to one character, I could empathize/understand the other characters as well, because their behavior was well-realized. This story gives deep, thoughtful consideration to vocation and one's place in the world, especially as they relate to marriage. Striking an easy balance between tension and resolution, humor and seriousness, this story is darker than The Shadow of the Bear. The evil is more subtle and more deadly, including the topics of drug addiction, assisted suicide, fear, jealousy, and death. However, love, perseverance, and forgiveness are triumphant despite the darkness, in the style of a true fairy tale.

3.5 stars.

My least favorite of Blanche and Rose's storyline. I was frequently bored while reading this one, as I found this one to be less engaging and longer. I love the characters and will definitely keep reading the series, this just wasn't my personal favorite.

Totally need a re-read, especially to see if I'll have warmed up to it more.

Read this in an afternoon. :) Not too bad for contemporary fiction. Follows The Shadow of the Bear. Very strongly Catholic.
