This was an interesting overview of some countries around the world, their origins and current relations with other countries. However, the British author includes many references to the influences of Europeans and colonialism across the globe, while using majority Western academic sources and references... :| need I say more?

While there were a couple of things that gave me pause and made me think early on, the more I read, the more issues I had. I was looking for depth, but this book was all surface. It's also quite a dull read.
And I loathe how every other chapter in the book is about a country or a region, and then there's the CONTINENT of Africa. Always and everywhere treated as a monolith. Africa is often referred to as if it's a country rather than an entire continent with over 50 diverse (in so many ways, including geography) countries. It's a huge pet peeve of mine.

Understanding why things happen because of where they happen is a critical part of understanding so much of our history.
The phrase ‘location, location, location’ rings true in geopolitical studies too.

Pretty decent overview of geopolitical issues, although the broad subject and desire to address the entire world keeps things a little basic. Latin America could've received more attention, Africa would've benefitted from further explanation of how the countries themselves will address the geography they've been given, and there's almost no discussion about how island nations (save for the UK and Japan) are shaped by their geography.

Very interesting, very clever. And some excellent premises to base analysis on. An enjoyable read.
