This was a beautiful work of contemporary fiction that absolutely captures how reading is more than just a hobby, or a form of distraction or entertainment, it really can bring people together. I'm enamored with Mukesh and Aleisha and their unlikely friendship. This story is crushing and beautiful in the best ways.

Such a wonderful reminder about the power of books and reading. It's a lovely story about how bookish friends are the BEST and bonding over stories is always a good thing. Highly recommend if you're stuck in a reading rut and would like to be reminded about why you love books.

The Reading List is a fun book overall, heartwarming and smart. The book theme was nicely handled, although, it should be noted that the book gives a lot of spoilers when it comes to the books on the list.
In addition the characters are interesting and they do have a character development, even if that doesn't come as smoothly as one would have hoped. The family drama was intense as well.
However, for a feel good, cozy and sweet book, THAT twist towards the ending was not something one would seek in a book like that. Not to mention that it was out of the blue. I mean, there were some signs, but, the character was not well fleshed and its motives and current situation were a blank board to the reader. Or, maybe, that was exactly what the author wanted the reader to feel, getting caught off guard just like the rest of the characters.
In addition to that, the mother's situation was not only badly explained, but also the characters acted irrational approaching it. First of all, they didn't seek help or at least some professional opionion. And yes, in these sitautions, the family members feel numb and probably try to hide the problem, but in this case they were fully aware of what was happening, they knew their limits and what their mom's mental health was causing to her own life but to their own lives as well. And yet, no one, not even the others outside the family circle, did anything to provoke things towards that diraction.
Also, things kept going in a bumpy pace, jumping from one timeline to another and forgeting to properly introduce some key situations.
The writing, on the other hand, had a nice flow and it was clear that the author loves books!!
