Picked this up as a Kindle First book. I was unfamiliar with Schaefer's previous books - the Daniel Faust and Revanche Cycle series - but was intrigued enough with the description that it sounded like a fun read. It was. Like supernatural stuff? Like police procedural stories? This is a bit of those. I liked it enough to think I might pick up the other books by Schaefer, but it seems as though Agent Black lives in the same universe as Faust and it drops some major spoilers on that series. So, there's that... Overall, a likable cast of protagonists, dislikable baddies, intriguing in-book plot, and an interesting glimpse at an overreaching storyline for future books. I'll read the next book.

Loved it.

I'll be honest, when I picked this book from the January Kindle First selections, I wasn't sold on it, but I thought I'd give it a whirl. Boy, am I glad I did.

And that, really, is the beauty of things like Kindle First and Kindle Unlimited: they're a low-stakes way for me to take a chance on books I probably wouldn't otherwise read. Skipping this book would have been unfortunate, because I would have missed out on what has the potential to be a great series. This book has it all: a fast-paced plot, just a little dollop of romance, a healthy sense of humor, and well-done drama that gut punched me without feeling soapy. I am really looking forward to the next book.

I really tried my best to give this book a shot, but after putting it down three or four times I just couldn't go see it through to the end.

The idea is interesting, but I've read too many other similar storylines with better developed characters and plots.

It's a great idea, but it missed the mark for me.

Not my usual kind of thing, but an enjoyable page-turner to start the year. Will keep an eye out for a sequel. 3.5 stars

I really enjoyed it, though at times I thought it was weird that the "Circus" treated Harmony like a new recruit when we were told she'd worked with Variant for 5 years. It just felt a little oddly condescending.

But I am curious about her powers, and about her team. Will definitely read on.

I liked this book, although it didn't live up to my expectations. I thought it would be a little more heavy handed with the magic. It was interesting, but I don't know if it gripped me as much as it should to start a series.

THIS BOOK WAS SO FREAKING GOOD!

Okay so I listened to the audio version while at work but then after I finished typing up my reviews and doing other stuff around the house.. well, I switched to the kindle version. I loved the audio but it was hard to listen to it with the tv on, the crazy wind outside, and my dog barking.

Harmony Black was so good! I couldn't put it down (like my phone.. since it was audio/kindle!). Harmony is the MC and she's a bad ass witch.

Who's the villain? The bogeyman.
Was I hooked from the very beginning? Yes, yes I was.
Did I fall in love with a book? Possibly.

Besides loving Harmony's character I really liked Jessie, who worked with her on the children disappearing cases. Jessie was a spitfire. God, the amount of sass that came out of her mouth was so freaking enjoyable. I have a girl crush on her.

Ugh! I need more of this dynamic duo right now! I secretly want to dive into the next book of this series but alas! I have so many other books with me that I need to dive into.

Other than that, there are some creepy paranormal crap going on throughout this book. Geeze the creepy voice just made me cringe and shiver with the creeps. It was good but creepy.

Overall, I really liked this book. No, loved this book. I want more of Harmony and Jessi. Less of the creepy paranormal voice. I want justice. I want her sister back. I WANT MORE!

Fun read, quick. Reminiscent of early Dresden, but with two bad-ass females in place of Harry and Bob the Skull. Looking forward to reading Harmony's further adventures, and catching up on the Daniel Faust series; should be some light summer reading!
