I DO NOT understand why everyone loves this book. They are so mean to each other and are constantly picking on poor Charlie Brown. Maybe you have to be a Peanuts fan? We don't get the hype!

Anyone and everyone should be familiar with the names Charles M. Schulz, Lee Mendelson, and Bill Melendez. Instantly when you hear these names you think of Charlie Brown. Yes, the loveable guy that everyone can remember and held out hope that one day Charlie would actually kick that football that Lucy was always holding for him. I can remember watching the television special of The Great Pumpkin with Charlie Brown and the gang. It was entertaining. Although, I can not blame Linus for being scared. I had such an enjoyable time reading this book and getting to learn how the whole Halloween special came to be. Also, becoming familiar with the voices and having faces to them was cool. I savored every moment. If anything after reading this book, it made me want to re-watch this Halloween special. There is nothing more classic than Charlie Brown and the rest of the gang. This book would make a great gift or table top book.

the show is cute, but the book highlights even more so the bits not exactly geared towards kids or that seem awkward. my kiddo little it more than me though

My son and I explored the app version of this story on my phone, which was hugely enjoyable. The narration is done by Peter Robbins, who provided the voice of Charlie Brown in the 1966 special. The illustrations are interactive and there are activities hidden throughout the pages to complete in order to earn a prize. There is a bookmark that can be dragged down to jump to a particular page, and Vince Guaraldi's wonderful jazz soundtrack plays in the background. The best part is that the entire storyline with Snoopy as a WWI flying ace has been mostly excised, which was a part of the story that I never liked despite being so fond of all the classic Charlie Brown holiday specials. Overall I thought the app added some clever bells and whistles to the story for the 21st century without changing its overall spirit.

This is a pleasant recollection of how the Charlie Brown Halloween special came together, but since there's not a lot of meat to this particular story, it's a little slight. It was fun to read about the young voice actors who lent their talent to these specials, the original production materials are nifty, and the flip book of Linus and Sally in the pumpkin patch is a cute touch.

I usually watch 'It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown' every year on TV, but this year it's only showing on AppleTV.  I love the Peanuts Gang and decided since I wouldn't be able to watch it this year, I would read it.

This book focuses on Linus.  He decided to spend Halloween in the pumpkin patch.  Why?  Because he is waiting on the Great Pumpkin.  The Great Pumpkin is supposed to bring gifts to kids in pumpkin patches.  He talks Sally into staying with him instead of trick-or-treating.  Will they see the Great Pumpkin?  Read the book and find out.

🙂 Happy Reading 🙂

I didn't realize the book has been around for so long. I have long adored the TV special this is based on. I have to admit I like the TV special better. That's why this isn't 5 stars. This book follows the show accept it leaves out the dance sequence they always have. The characters did seem to be wearing different clothes in this. The TV show is more fleshed out. Still, it is a great story.

I do wonder how Linus got the idea of the Great Pumpkin. He just made this up and believes it so much he is willing to sit and wait each year in a pumpkin patch which I'm surprised there are pumpkins left. Now I want to see the TV show.

Poor Charlie brown and his rocks. The kids love the TV special too and so they were glad to be able to have an experience of it since we don't own it. We talked about the show while reading the book and it brought back good memories. They gave it 5 stars. I think it's the nostalgia at play.

We must protect Linus at all cost. Also, why did they give Charlie Brown rocks?😭
