“ But every time I read the news, I am
pummeled by stories of missing girls,
murdered girls, women killed by their
revenge-seeking former boyfriends, and it
becomes increasingly difficult to call the
murder of women "rare." It is impossible to
call my fear "irrational. “

A powerful, biting poetry collection about violence against women and the messed up ways society romanticizes it. Definitely going to be picking up more of Gatwood's poetry in the future-- she's one of the strongest poetic voice I've ever read.

i will remember these eleven women and the foetus. i will keep all the women in my mind, the women who died just like them, while living, while loving their predators. i won't dig to find the tamed from the untamed. a beast always stays a beast.

Poetry is one of those genres I don't feel like should be rated, but this was super compelling and easy for a novice like me to reflect on. Gatwood does an excellent job of capturing the latent fear female presenting people constant have of men and their capacity for violence, as well as our culture's fascination with it through the true crime content. Also, I had no idea she was the poet of the "Ode to My Bitch Face", which is a favorite of mine.

As a true crime lover, I was instantly drawn in by the introduction of this book. The poems are beautiful and raw and I wish I had read this book last year while I was in poetry workshop. There is so much to think about and discuss with this book. Thank you, Molly for letting me borrow it! Although if I’m being completely honest I don’t want to give it back
