Slight as this book is, I flat-out adored it almost the whole way through. It's the story of when the circus comes to town, and a gang of undifferentiated kids gets caught up in the excitement. The illustrations are splendid little period pieces, and the characters leap off the pages. The only bobble comes at the end, when the "Red Indians and Cossacks" come into the ring and frighten the kids- but for a book that was published in the 20s, it's about what one would expect.

The kind of book one would like to have a broken copy of, so the illustrations could be turned into wall art.
