Macho man Solo finds himself in a cage, drugged unable to free himself. He is is a circus of others, run by a mad man, a wicked warlock and his daughter. The cruelty leveled on the others is heartbreaking and the daughter is driven to try to help. There is a problem with that, she is a captive herself. After years of horrible abuse, she tries and now she wants to try for Solo.
This is a pretty dark fantasy/romance. 9/10 of the book is about being captive, controlled, and finally escaping. The last part is the HEA. Yes there is a kind of HEA, but it was so rushed it seemed to quickly over and finished after the long road to get there. I have not read The Alien Huntress series which I guess this is a spin off of. I got confused on a few characters and who/what there were. I plan on re-reading this after I read that series. I enjoyed it, but didn't love it.

Gena Showalter. I think i have your other books, but I'm not sure.

And if I haven't after Last Kiss Goodnight I think i will.

Vika is such a sweetheart; absolutely caring and self-giving, but still retains her ability to differentiate from stupidity and goodness. One of my biggest pet peeves is when the main character is TOO caring and it is unbelieavle. Vika keeps her self respect while at the same having not an ounce of selfishness. Twas quite nice.

Solo.. At first his name made me laugh. Mainly because i find it so super unsexy and kinda funny. So i had some difficulty taking him seriously. And I won't say he isn't interesting, but he is completely unorginal.

That is the biggest most annoying thing about romantic supernatural novels. All the main heros (the lads) are all allusive, melancholic, abused men who are hot (but all the same rugged manner) and after a while get kinda.. boring.

Anyways, Last Kiss Goodnight 's plot was interesting. I had fun reading it, and i do think i'm going to check out the rest of this series ( and her other books as well!! ) Because even if her heros aren't too original they are still scrumptious.

Oh boy was this book weird as hell. I wasn't entirely sure what I was expecting, only that this was a captive/captor fantasy romance. It was certainly that, but I just didn't love it. Honestly, it's probably because the narrator kept mentioning Solo's fucking toenails. And as a person with a foot anti-fetish (meaning feet freak me the hell out), I did not enjoy that.

Vika is the deaf daughter of a ruthless circus ringmaster, and the prologue was so damn sad I nearly put the book down when that chapter finished. Her father's circus houses many otherworld species (aka aliens) and allows customers to come and gawk at them. Solo is a policeman/bounty hunter/thing tasked with bringing this circus down with the help of his two partners/adopted brothers. But things go awry and Solo is suddenly a captive in this fucked up circus. Vika is tasked with feeding and watering the aliens, and immediately tries to help the unconscious Solo- who, of course, reacts with violence when he wakes up. The romance takes a while to build up, and it can be quite slow sometimes. The characters were well thought out, but the lack of world-building and fucked up father bothered me enough that I am not able to give it any higher than 3 stars.

I don't think I'll be continuing with the series, but I don't regret reading it. I usually enjoy Gena Showalter's books, but I guess this just wasn't for me.

For fans of Gena's writing, you will definitely find this story tame at best. Its a bit of a disappointment, honestly. If you're expecting lots of action, sexual tension, sizzling love scenes ..you might want to read earlier works of hers. There are rumors that Gena has found God, and though I am happy for her recovery, it has definitely affected her writing in a negative way. Honestly, this is more of a Young Adult book than a typical Gena book along the lines of LOTU. Im a little afraid of what will happen to the rest of the gang for her Lords series, and for her Angels series. I hope she finds her writing style again.

I’m a fan of Gena Showalter and have been for a while. Lately I had been enjoying the Lords of the Underworld series and had thought that when that series was complete she’d start writing about Angels which is true, that’s her Angels of the Dark books. When I picked up Last Kiss Goodnight I was initially thrown off because I was expecting Angels but this felt more like her Alien Huntress series. Which is fine, I enjoyed that series too. But when you’re expecting Angels and get Aliens it can throw a reader for a loop. Outside of that, I enjoyed this introduction to a new series. I liked Solo, who was a big, angry, alpha hero who throughout his life was told he was ugly and a monster. He had only been understood and loved by his adoptive parents who he lost as a teenager. When he wakes up as a sideshow act in a demented circus, he knows he has to escape but is intrigued by his ‘keeper’, Vika. Vika knows nothing other than the circus which is run under the cruel thumb of her father. She’s tried escaping and releasing the other Otherworlders being held at the circus but with disastrous results. She’s immediately drawn to Solo and wants to help him escape but she has a plan and she needs his patience. He’s not known for patience but can’t seem to say no to this woman. I loved their interaction, how their feelings for each other are so new to each and neither is sure how to express what they are feeling. I loved how it was a sense of discovery for them both. I did feel like they were at the circus a little too long, I would have loved if they broke out sooner and were able to spend more time together outside of such straining circumstances. I did enjoy the world presented and am very excited to see what comes from the remaining two books in the series.

It wasn't the most exciting paranormal romance book I've read but it was mildly entertaining and I think I'll continue on with the series. Been looking for a paranormal romance series that is available as an ebook to binge. Bit not as many to choose from as it is on audiobook format

A spin-off from Ms. Showalters Alien Huntress series. This series has a possibility of surpassing the original. Like the original there is lots of action and romance with arresting characters.

In this book Black-ops agent (and alien) Solomon Jonah is caught in an explosion and wakes up in a cage in a bizarre circus where aliens are the animals/freak show. His caretaker is the owner’s daughter Vika Lukas he knows she is the key to his escape but more importantly he recognizes her as his other half. Vika has been abused by her father and fears him as he becomes increasingly evil and violent. She vows never to become like him and even if she can’t free Solo and the others she does what she can to protect them. She feels the connection between her and the new guy but she has to protect him and her heart. Solo and Vika are conflicted by their feelings and circumstance.

Get ready to RUMBLE! Solomon is one of the biggest and baddest of Ms. Showalters aliens to date. Vika is light to his dark, sweetness to his sourpuss, and just as strong in her way. What they go through is just amazing and appalling and frightening and wonderful.
