I had this book as an eARC and I ended up giving it two stars and DNFing it. Then I found it at the library and decided to give it another try. And I am so glad I did because this book was amazing! I do have to say that the cutting thing that is in this book was one of the things that turned me off of it the first time I tried it. But now that I have read it all the way through I understand why it was there. So although it should be listed as a trigger please know that there is a good reason why it's there.

This story is for the reader who loves mystery and witchy magical things. Overcoming Evil as well as those who want a story about family and first love. This book has it all. It was a very fast read and I read it in 3 and a half hours. And I couldn't put it down. The author did a wonderful job with the flow and giving us little bits and pieces of the story as it unfolded. The POVs of Heather, Primrose, and Prudence was ingenious and it made the story more interesting. The setting of Scotland was beyond magical and I do hope one day to visit. And no that's not just because I'm addicted to all thing Outlander..........

I've veered away from YA and in particular paranormal YA for a while, after seeing a new title pop up by Demitria Lunetta whose previous 2 part 'In The After' I found interesting, I thought I'd give this a go.

Unfortunately the past life Scotland based ghost/witch/revenge storyline didn't quite work for me and I couldn't really find it in myself to emphasise with our main character.

I received an ARC through NetGalley from Random House Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

Holy Cow! I am left speechless and wanting so much more. It has been a long time since I have read a book in one day.

Bad Blood follows Heather on her trip to Scotland to visit her aunt following a recent release from the Wellness Center.

Heather doesn't know what changed or why she started cutting, but personally for me there were a few scenes that made me cringe. She also had super vivid nightmares that are increasingly disturbing.

I don't want to give anything away. This is a book to be enjoyed and savoured. Awesome work by Demitria Lunetta. So Good! I just want to keep gushing. I need more!

Great read but not as evil and scary as this book cover looks. Perfect for don't judge a book by its cover but of course that's what I did. Picked up because of the cover.

An interesting take on how cutting could relate to ancient Highlands blood magic, with an unexpected twist in the final few pages. I'd have liked it more if the main character's mental, in addition to magical, problems had been explored more fully in the conclusion, and I think the dreams give too much away. Otherwise, a clear, appealing cast of characters.

Scotland, Friends, and Witches, Oh My!

I think this book has a little bit of everything in it. I love that it's set in Scotland and about witchcraft and healing. This was an interesting read for me, as well as a quick one. I loved the friends being so open with each other about their relationships in true girl fashion as well as the romance that was slightly predictable but still sweet to read as it unfolded.
I feel the ending was a bit rushed and slightly abrupt in that everyone is friends again and there's your happily ever after. At one point toward the end, I did feel as though Heather's friend was suddenly going to be revealed as her true half sister. Accordingly the story mentions her mom using a love potion to get pregnant and nothing else, why couldn't it have been Heather's dad before he left to America and met her mom? Just throwing that out there. Overall, I would recommend this to others, with the warning that there is self harm detailed throughout.

Content warning: cutting.

Young adult novels often surprise me with their readiness to address issues that adults skirt around when talking to young adults in person. Themes of mental health, cancer, dementia, parental disagreements, and finding where in the world that you truly belong. Add in a healthy dose of Scottish magic, what could go possibly wrong?
Though the pacing seemed fast at times, I think it was an accurate portrayal of the recklessness that occurs in shifting times. This book is perhaps the author's lowest rated, but I very much enjoyed it, so I'd like to read more by Demitria Lunetta.

Bad Blood was an interesting read. Although I do believed that the story was rushed and could have been so much better if it was longer. Nothing started to happen until about half way through and everything fell in the palms of her hands with no problems. Some of the characters were better than others and I wish the MC and her friends had a little more to them. I did like the different take on magic and the way witches were presented, but again it needed some more development to them.

This is a short one. Nothing special but I enjoyed it a bit.

Pros:
- Pacing is good. I didn't feel like the story dragged at any point.
- Characters are not annoying. Considering they are all teenagers, this is quite an accomplishment.

Cons:
- The ending is very anti-climatic. Everything was resolved quickly so it felt too neat.
- The side romance was not necessary and added nothing to the main story.
