Listened to this when I was having a hard time sleeping. Gave it an extra star for the sleep-aid it gave me. I just kind of kept waiting for something to happen.

“As a quick aside, let me observe that in moments of high emotion – whether they’re triggered by anger or envy, humiliation or resentment – if the next thing you’re going to say makes you feel better, then its probably the wrong thing to say.”
All I want is a leisurely afternoon on a sun-drenched terrace, listening to the sounds of the streets below, indulging in caviar, sipping champagne, and reading Rules of Civility. I adored this! Ever since I first read Amor Towles' novel, A Gentleman in Moscow, a few years back, I've been eager to read his other works when the timing felt just right. There's something about Amor Towles' writing that demands the perfect timing in life to be enjoyed. Rules of Civility was all vibes, minimal plot, yet completely captivating. Each character feels familiar, leaving you wanting to uncover the rest of their lives beyond the final page. Having finished this, I can’t wait for Table for Two to come out next month, a collection of short stories set in New York and LA, one of which is set to follow up on Miss Evelyn Ross from Rules of Civility.

Strangely bittersweet, yet dry with wit; like a biscuit dunked in tea.

I really liked this book. It was beautifully written and flowed so nicely. I was interested almost immediately. The characters were so vivid and very entertaining. I love the way the author brought them to life. I really liked Kately and following her life and watching her change so much in just a year. She was so strong and independent and sharp, without being overtly so and without needing to prove it to everyone around her. Her story was so real and I could feel all her emotions as the story progressed. I also love the time period and the description of normal (and weathly) living in NYC. Would recommend to everyone.
