The author actually has a PhD and got sick of how serious people take mythical tales, so he wanted to make them sound stupid and childish. Basically to poke fun at the people who take it too seriously.

It's not a book for sitting down and reading cover to cover. It's a coffee table book meant to be picked up briefly by guests, or when you're waiting for your toast to pop or whatever. For what it is suppose to be, the book is amazing. It provides short crude glimpses into the crude lives of gods. It de-glamorizes/de-romanticizes mythology from around the world. It's written in a simplistic way that the non-reader can digest.

It's hilarious. Buy it, let it sit on your coffee table for a while, then give it to a friend to sit on their coffee table for a while.

Despite a decided overabundance of dick jokes (no, seriously, this book is at least 50% dick jokes), and some (ok, a lot of ) lowest common denominator humor, it was still an amusing read. A lot of the novelty started to wear off after the Norse section (because, again, there are only so many times a dick joke can be funny after just reading 20 other dick jokes), but there was enough to keep me at least semi-entertained until the end.

A short summary of all the stories in a what the fuck was happening kind of way.
Basically what everyone is really thinking when we hear stories of religion
